Originally a Waffen SS officer in Nazi Germany, Alfred was part of a clandestine group within the SS that foresaw the inevitable downfall of the Third Reich. Before Berlin fell to the Red Army, they had managed to stash away a significant sum into secure accounts, hiding the details within a painting titled "The Twelve Knights Led by Brunhilda." He entrusted this painting to Lt. Col. Spielberger of the SS, falsely claiming it was painted by Adolf Hitler. In reality, the artwork was created by an obscure artist, as Hitler could only draw rudimentary outdoor scenes. Spielberger then traveled to Kiel's U-Boat pens and boarded U-1324, which was transporting Lt. Col. Matsuda back to Japanese-controlled Batavia in Indonesia (now Jakarta). However, the submarine was sunk near its destination by a U.S. Navy patrol searching for Japanese subs.
The U-Boat remained largely forgotten until a French telecommunications company stumbled upon it while laying cables in the area. By this time, Alfred had gone into hiding in South America but learned about the discovery and devised a plan. A neo-Nazi group from the United States, the Aryan Socialist Union, sought his financial support. Alfred tasked them with retrieving the painting from the sunken U-Boat. Simultaneously, he assigned the same mission to the Lagoon Company, owned by the African-American Dutch, intending to test if the A.S.U. could outperform what he deemed a 'racially-inferior' group.
Although the A.S.U. successfully located and retrieved the painting, they were brutally killed by Revy and Dutch during their drunken celebration aboard the ship. While on the phone with Alfred, the A.S.U.'s leader, Ratchman, discovered Alfred's betrayal, much to his dismay. Alfred then spoke to Dutch, who, along with Revy, expressed a small measure of respect for him despite his racial views.
