Hanabishi Kaoru's mother.

The Hanabishi family disapproved of her, considering her to be of low social standing. Therefore, she was never officially married to her partner, Hanabishi Yuuji. After Yuuji's sudden death in a car accident and with no other known heirs, Kaoru was recognized as the official heir of the Hanabishi family. However, this recognition came with the condition that Kumi leave the estate and cease all contact with Kaoru.

Kumi passes away during Kaoru's high school years, though the cause of her death is never revealed. Her death marked a turning point for Kaoru, leading him to leave the Hanabishi family. He had stayed only to fulfill her wish for him to have a prosperous life.
