Koyo Aoba is a member of the Shimon Famiglia. He and his family moved to Namimori after an earthquake struck their area, as Namimori is relatively free from seismic activity. The Shimon Famiglia was invited to attend the Vongola Inheritance Ceremony as guests. He first appeared alongside Ryohei when they were both stuck trying to answer difficult questions. Like Ryohei, Koyo uses boxing gloves as his weapon of choice. Both share a similar temperament, often getting angry quickly and refusing to back down from a fight. Koyo is sensitive about his contradictory name (Aoba meaning green leaves and Koyo meaning red leaves), stating that he has been teased about it since birth. However, he asserts that regardless of what his name means, they are still just leaves. Later, Koyo is seen on the school's rooftop with other transfer students and Tsuna's Guardians, watching Hibari battle Adelheid. He encourages Adelheid to "defeat the Nami student." Koyo appears surprised that Hibari remains unfazed by Adelheid's revealing attack. He is also shocked, along with Rauji, when Hibari's attack pushes Adelheid back across the rooftop. Fortunately, Tsuna, pushed by Reborn, steps in between Hibari and Adelheid to stop the fight. Koyo, along with Rauji and Enma, is surprised that Reborn can speak fluently. Reborn explains that the Shimon are guests at the Vongola Inheritance Ceremony and have been allies of the Vongola since Primo's time, though their strength has diminished over the years. Koyo is taken aback when Reborn says he softened the truth. Reborn clarifies that he did not sugarcoat it, leading Koyo to shout that they came all this way to see them.
