Kotori Monou, Fuuma's younger sister, is a delicate child with a congenital heart condition and is developing into a yumemi (dreamseer). She shares a deep bond with Kamui from their childhood, remaining kind to him even when he initially treats her coldly upon his return. In the TV series, Kotori dreams of becoming an indigo dyer in the style of Japan's Edo period, dedicating herself to studying this craft in her school's library. Her fate plays a crucial role in Kamui's decision between the two sides. Destined to die by the second Kamui, the only uncertainty was whether Kamui or Fuuma would be the one to kill her. However, when Kamui chooses to protect her, indirectly committing to join the Seals to save humanity and prevent her death, it is ultimately Fuuma who kills her. The manner of her death differs slightly between the manga and the XTV series. In the manga, she is stabbed in the chest with a sword, and her body is dismembered by the wires that bound her to a cross. Kamui keeps her severed head and buries it. In the TV series, her body remains intact, and Kamui buries her whole. Before her death, Kotori begins to develop psychic abilities as a seer, which allows her to maintain a psychic link with Kakyou even after she dies. She remembers the traumatic day her mother died giving birth to the first sacred sword and loses her mind when she sees Tokiko Magami suffer the same fate. Before she regains her senses, Fuuma kills her as he transforms into the Dark Kamui. In spirit form, Kotori stays with the Dragon of Earth dreamseer Kakyou for a while, encouraging him and telling him that the future is not set in stone. In the movie version, Kotori dies when the second Sacred Sword is removed from her body. Despite Kamui's efforts to save her in the dreamscape, Fuuma catches her and pulls the sword out, killing her in front of Kamui and others.
