Kochō (胡蝶, "Butterfly") was one of Kikyou's assistants. She was one of two shikigami in the form of young girls. Alongside Asuka, she primarily served as Kikyou's messenger after Kikyou was severely injured by Naraku on Mount Hakurei.
Additionally, Kochō and Asuka act as attendants for Kikyou's other shikigami, Saint Hijiri, who is essentially a puppet and vessel for Kikyou's soul. Both Kochō and Asuka possess the ability to create and sustain powerful barriers.
