King Donald's relationship with his son has been strained since the passing of his wife. Kiefer, who enjoys "wine, women, and adventure," further complicates matters when he steals his mother's Sunstone, a ring originally given to her by King Donald. The situation escalates when Kiefer and his companions discover Ballymolloy and bring it into the present. In response, King Donald organizes an expedition to explore the new island. An elderly man living on the cliff, summoned by the king, recognizes that Kiefer and the others have brought a world into existence. He advises King Donald to let Kiefer proceed to restore this world. Concerned for his son and the royal lineage, King Donald initially refuses. However, Kiefer escapes the castle and continues his journey regardless. Realizing he cannot stop his son, King Donald reluctantly permits him to continue. When Kiefer chooses to stay with the Roamers, the Hero informs King Donald. Though appreciative of the Hero's honesty, King Donald masks his sadness with anger upon learning of these events. By then, he had come to terms with Kiefer continuing his journey and would have blessed him. Now, however, he understands that he will never see his son again.
