Pollock is introduced very early as Pilchard Bay's finest fisherman, a legacy that the townsfolk sincerely hope his son will continue. As the game begins, Pollock and his crew are preparing to embark on the village's annual pilchard harvest. He never starts such an important day without enjoying a pilchard sandwich made by his wife, Pearl. The Hero must deliver this sandwich to him. Though Maribel attempts to stow away on the fishing boat, she is quickly discovered by the Hero and the ship's crew. Pollock sets sail, during which time he brings in a substantial catch. All feast and take great pride in their successful day. However, something unexpected was also caught in the nets—a fragment of stone. This marks the beginning of the Hero's quest. Pollock is later summoned to meet with King Donald of Estard to discuss the mysteries surrounding this and other fragments. He is called again as the islands of the world start to reappear. Pollock has a brother named Pike, who is somewhat of a dubious character. Despite this, Pollock's hard work often helps get Pike out of the trouble he finds himself in. Throughout the story, Pollock offers traditional fatherly advice and support for the Hero and his friends.
