Kenji Harima is the male protagonist, a former delinquent who has feelings for Tenma. Although he doesn't practice any specific martial arts, few can match his hand-to-hand combat skills. He can communicate with animals and owns a variety of unusual pets, each named after European monarchs. He has a younger brother, Shuuji, who is fond of Yakumo.
Harima frequently struggles to confess his feelings to Tenma, knowing she does not reciprocate his emotions and may even dislike him. Each time he gathers the courage to express his feelings, something interrupts him. Additionally, he faces complicated situations with his classmate Eri, unaware of her mixed feelings towards him. He becomes extremely jealous when he sees Tenma with Karasuma, but his attempts to interfere usually end up bringing them closer. Ironically, Harima admires Nijō jō (二条丈), the pen name of Karasuma, who is a mangaka.
To date, Tenma hasn't properly heard Harima's confession. Harima also works as a mangaka, with Yakumo as his assistant, leading to further misunderstandings as it took some time for Tenma to realize their relationship was purely professional, at least from Harima's side.
In the final chapter of the manga "School Rumble Z," Harima is seen walking into a hospital room with Eri, who is holding a baby and blushing, while visiting Karasuma.
