The openly homosexual and sadistic wielder of a sneaky, retractable sword named "Jakotsutou," Jakotsu is among the most proficient fighters in the Shichinintai (Band of Seven) and held the rank of third in command. He appeared to be the first member of the Shichinintai to meet Bankotsu, being with him even before the group was formed. Bankotsu and Jakotsu shared a close bond, with Bankotsu stating that Jakotsu was the only person he trusted.
Upon hearing about InuYasha from Kohaku, Jakotsu quickly developed a bloodthirsty and somewhat sexual fascination with him. Throughout the arc, his primary goal was to find, battle, and kill InuYasha. After encountering InuYasha, Jakotsu often swooned and pouted when denied a confrontation. He flew into a rage when Sango interfered in his initial fight with InuYasha and at one point admitted he found Miroku attractive as well.
Jakotsu continually sought opportunities to duel InuYasha. His chance came inside Mount Hakurei, where InuYasha was temporarily turned human by the holy barrier. Following an intense battle, Jakotsu was defeated by InuYasha—who had reverted to a hanyou due to the weakening barrier—and spared. Although Jakotsu accepted his death happily, having fought the battle he desired, he could have survived if Renkotsu hadn't removed the Shikon shard from his neck, an act later avenged by Bankotsu.
