Jack Rakan, known as Jacobus Racan on his pactio card where the "k" in his family name is replaced with a "c" as per standard, is also referred to as "Rakan of the Thousand Swords." He is a large, dark-skinned member of Nagi's group and appears to be an exceptionally powerful fighter, capable of executing highly destructive attacks effortlessly. His Pactio item is a blade that can transform into any shape imaginable and can even become a giant sword falling from the sky for an immensely powerful strike. Additionally, he demonstrated the ability to emit a high-powered laser from his body at will.
Rakan first meets Negi, disguised as an older individual, in the Magical World while observing his battles in tournaments aimed at raising money to free some of his students. Noticing that Negi lacks a special ultimate technique, Rakan offers to teach him one for a substantial fee. However, after both are attacked by a shadow-manipulator seeking revenge on Nagi, Rakan saves Negi's life without charge and decides to become his teacher without demanding the fee. He then teaches Negi a forbidden technique called Magia Erebea, created by Evangeline A.K. McDowell.
