Izayoi is the mother of Inuyasha. In the manga, she remains unnamed. Very little is known about Izayoi since she passed away before the events of the series unfolded, and because Inuyasha seldom discusses her, likely due to his lingering sorrow over her death. She was the daughter of a feudal lord and eventually met and fell in love with Inu no Taishou, who reciprocated her feelings. Although they developed a relationship, it is never explicitly mentioned whether they were married or officially mated. Upon Inu no Taishou's demise, Izayoi was left to raise their son, Inuyasha, by herself. She felt sorrowful knowing that Inuyasha would face discrimination from both humans and demons due to his half-demon heritage. The exact time and cause of her death remain unknown, but it is established that she died when Inuyasha was still quite young.
In the manga, Inuyasha's mother is never given a name; however, she is named in the third movie of the series. Sesshomaru holds Izayoi responsible for his father's death, asserting that her presence weakened Inu no Taishou, ultimately leading to his demise.
