Hojo is a boy who attends Kagome's school and develops a significant crush on her. He firmly believes that Kagome is always ill and goes out of his way to bring her items to help her feel better.
After Inuyasha forced Kagome back to her own time, she had an actual date with Hojo. However, she was so worried about Inuyasha's wounds that she left the restaurant in the middle of their date to try and return to the past. Kagome often tries to convince herself that she truly loves Hojo, but whenever she has a choice, she always seems to choose Inuyasha over Hojo.
As an interesting side note, Hojo's ancestor, Hojo Akitoki, appears in the past and he too falls in love with Kagome. He first shows up in the second movie, "Castle Beyond the Looking Glass," and later in Episode 137: "The Ancestor's Name Is Kagome." Hojo Akitoki looks quite similar to the present-day Hojo, except with a different hairstyle and lighter brown hair and eyes.
On March 14, 2006, in the series "Inuyasha," they mentioned a sword of Kaijimbo before Tokijin was made. This sword brought bad luck to the Hojo family. The character only had half of the sword because the Naginaga (the sword's name) was cut at the handle, creating two pieces. Hojo Akitoki possesses the Kene blade.
