Haruka was a pureblood vampire and the father of Kaname. He was also the husband and brother of Juri Kuran. Haruka was described as having a mild temperament, being quiet and kind. He was a pacifist who believed in the future, living quietly and watching over his family.
He was also Yuuki's father. Ten years ago, his older brother, Rido, trespassed into the Kuran Mansion with intentions to use Yuuki for his own benefit. While Haruka defended his family by thwarting Rido's attack, he was eventually pierced in the heart by a Vampire Hunter's sword. Kaname arrived and stood between Rido and Haruka, but Haruka stated that it would undermine his pride as a parent if he allowed Kaname to protect him. Before dying, he hugged Kaname and asked him to watch over Yuuki.
