William Jones' best friend, a prince from India, serves as a foil to William. Both attended Eton College. Hakim, somewhat of a womanizer, contrasts sharply with William's reserved nature and disdain for social gatherings. His straightforwardness and outgoing personality are worlds apart from William's introversion. Hakim is usually accompanied by his servant harem and travels with an entourage of servants and elephants. Like William, Hakim was instantly captivated by Emma upon first sight.
Hakim extended his stay in England solely to observe the development of the relationship between Emma and William. Once he realized that Emma had feelings for William, he endeavored to encourage their bond further. However, when Emma expressed her intention to return to her hometown, Hakim did not attempt to dissuade her. When William eventually proposed to Eleanor, Hakim announced his decision to return home, finding no more excitement in witnessing William succumbing to societal pressures.
Mori originally intended for Hakim to be a pure rival to William, but his role evolved as the story progressed.
