A soft-spoken, well-groomed second-year student with long, light green hair, Emiri first appears in "Mysterique Sign" seeking advice from the SOS Brigade, claiming she is the girlfriend of the Computer Research Society president. Kyon later uncovers that this claim is false, leading him to suspect that Emiri might be a Humanoid Interface similar to Yuki and Ryoko. Emiri reappears as the secretary to the Student Council president. By this point, it is suggested that she holds a position superior to Yuki's, or at least acts as her supervisor, due to Yuki's world-altering actions. Emiri is also shown to work part-time, against the rules of the School Council, as a waitress in the cafe frequented by the SOS Brigade. In "The Astonishment of Haruhi Suzumiya," Emiri reveals that Nagato had transferred part of her judgment abilities to her while Nagato was ill. Asakura warns Kyon that Emiri will be more difficult to seek help from than herself because Emiri will be strictly bound by the commands of her superiors, only "observing."
