Kyon describes her as extremely cute, and she frequently faces inappropriate behavior from Haruhi Suzumiya. In reality, Mikuru is a time traveler from the future, tasked with observing Haruhi throughout the storyline. Recognized as one of the most beautiful girls in high school, Mikuru is as kind, caring, and thoughtful as she is attractive. She gets scared or flustered easily and tends to daydream, which sometimes makes her clumsy. Despite this, she can be surprisingly resilient and capable of recovering from uncomfortable situations. However, due to her gentle nature, she often seems helpless. Kyon feels it is his duty to watch over and protect her, although there is no escape when it comes to Haruhi's actions. Mikuru serves as the "mascot" of the SOS Brigade, used to attract interest and members through her physical appeal—her cute face, slim figure, and notable bust. Haruhi "voluntarily arrested" her, deeming it necessary to have an alluring lolita type in the club. Her charm and innocence are often exploited by Haruhi to obtain resources. Mikuru is frequently forced to wear various outfits chosen by Haruhi. Haruhi also insists on dressing and undressing Mikuru herself, much to Mikuru's vocal distress. So far, Mikuru has worn costumes such as maid, waitress, nurse, frog, cheerleader, miko, and the infamous bunny-girl. The name "Mikuru (みくる)" originates from "Miku," which when written in Kanji is "Mirai (未来)," meaning "future" in Japanese.
