doctor onishi

Doctor Onishi, commonly referred to simply as the Doctor, is the chief scientist leading a covert psychic research project and also serves as the Colonel's scientific advisor. He represents the second generation of scientists overseeing this endeavor, following Akira's lethal encounter with the previous team. His insatiable curiosity and disregard for others' safety ultimately unlock and foster Tetsuo's devastating abilities.

In the anime, the Colonel urges him to terminate Tetsuo immediately if his powers grow too formidable. However, the Doctor disregards this advice, believing that Tetsuo might hold the key to unraveling the enigma surrounding Akira's capabilities. Tragically, the Doctor meets his demise when the vehicle he is in gets crushed during Akira's reawakening.

In the manga, after Tetsuo releases Akira from his cryogenic containment, the Doctor attempts but fails to enter the shelter and consequently succumbs to hypothermia.
