Chachamaru Karakuri is the tenth student in her class. Created by Satomi Hakase to serve and protect Evangeline, she was originally designed as a two-year-old robot. Initially devoid of genuine emotions, Chachamaru begins to develop feelings after spending time with Negi. She starts showing signs of emotion such as embarrassment when her crush on Negi is mentioned, her internal gears speeding up akin to a human heart racing, and even leaking laser fluid when upset. These new emotions conflict with her original programming, much to Hakase's delight. In her free time, she enjoys helping others and rescuing stray animals. Despite fearing that she might be nothing more than a soulless doll, she forms a pactio with Negi (in his Nagi form) at the Governor's Ball in the Magic World, which confirms her possession of a soul.
Chachamaru’s body is powered by a combination of an internal spring and magic, requiring someone with magical energy to wind her key for power. The winding process is pleasurable, though too much magic can make it uncomfortable. Skilled in hand-to-hand combat, she is equipped with rocket fists, laser emitters, thrusters for flight lasting up to fifteen minutes, and tools to break binding circles. Over time, her body undergoes several upgrades, eventually receiving a completely human-like appearance that conceals her mechanical parts. She even has a chibi form for disguise purposes. The upgrade also allows her to transform her arms into swords and guns.
