Briareos stands as a quintessential illustration of cybernetic implant technology in the Appleseed universe. Despite his nearly entirely artificial body, he retains a significant degree of humanity. His outer skin is elastic and sensitive to touch, with temperature adjustable according to the cyborg's preferences. He possesses eight eyes positioned on his head: four in his face (the large sensor in the middle serves as his nose), two at the base of his "rabbit ear" sensors, and two at their tips, enabling him to safely peer around corners.
His brain is enhanced by an auxiliary unit that functions as an information processor, capable of managing data conceptually rather than purely numerically. Briareos' cybernetics controller, known as the Hecatonchires system—named after the hundred-handed giants from Greek mythology—is able to control multiple limbs or other cyborg bodies independently, without causing additional strain on the user. In the manga, it is mentioned that a cyborg equipped with the Hecatonchires system can fully operate an entire aircraft carrier single-handedly. This capability to manage multiple limbs simultaneously is depicted in the film when he is seen handling one rifle in his Landmate’s arms while using another in the control arms.
Note: Briareos is the sole known cyborg who has successfully integrated with the Hecatonchires system; all other test subjects failed to adapt and perished. This is highlighted in the latest Appleseed movie.
