Urzu-1, the current team leader of the SRT, made his first appearance in the novel 'End of Day By Days' and the second anime series Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid. He took over after Captain Gail McAllen's death near the end of the novel 'Rocking into The Blue'. Urzu-1 pilots the M9D Falke and was part of MITHRIL's Mediterranean Sea Fleet. His introduction to the team was unconventional; he annoyed Kurz Weber and Sousuke Sagara by claiming McAllen was a coward while sitting in his chair, though McAllen was actually a trusted teammate and friend.
He showcased his martial arts expertise by incapacitating Kurz with a single move and defeating Sousuke and the Arbalest during a 'test'. This demonstrated his capability as a leader when he explained to Sousuke that his loss wasn't due to skill but rather his hatred for the Arbalest, emphasizing that an Arm Slave is akin to an extension of one's body. Despite this, Kurz and Urzu-1 have developed a grudging respect for each other. It's known that he and Melissa Mao have known each other for a long time, with Mao calling him 'Bel'.
He was among the few survivors of the attack on Melida Island, alongside Melissa Mao, Kurz Weber, Richard Mardukas, Teletha Testarossa, and most of the crew of the Tuatha de Danaan at the end of the novel 'Continuing on My Own'. In the TSR OVA, it's revealed that Urzu-1 is an anime otaku in his spare time.
