First impressions of Ban are that he is often perceived as rude and prideful. Known for his unruly hair, which has earned him the nickname "Urchin Head," and his sunglasses, people tend to judge him harshly. He also has a habit of giving unflattering nicknames to those he meets, such as calling Shido "monkey trainer" and Kazuki "thread spool." However, beneath this rough exterior lies a strong leader with a kind heart and exceptional talents. Ban is one-quarter German and is the grandchild of the "Last Witch of the 20th Century."
He serves as a brother-like figure to Kudou Himiko after she overcame her brother's death. Given her average fighting skills, Himiko often finds herself in difficult situations, but Ban consistently comes to her rescue. Although she occasionally returns the favor, their bond is evident.
In the Get Backers duo, Ban is usually the one who devises plans for their missions. Initially, Ginji was seen as Ban's sidekick. In fact, when they first teamed up, Ban insisted that Ginji was only his assistant. As their story progresses, Ginji becomes more capable, and Ban acknowledges him as an equal.
Ban is feared for his Jagan, a power allowing him to create a one-minute illusion for anyone he makes eye contact with. This power can be used three times per day, and the same person cannot be affected again for 24 hours. While the illusion lasts only a minute, it can feel like several hours within the Jagan's influence if Ban wills it so.
As a direct descendant of the Witch clan and born under the star of Asclepius, Ban possesses incredible superhuman strength, providing him with a gripping force of 200 kgf (2 kN) in each hand. He can break open armored steel truck doors and punch hard enough to create large craters or collapse multi-story buildings.
At full power, his right hand transforms into a snake's claw capable of crushing anything. During his power-up, a giant snake's astral outline surrounds him. Despite his seemingly ordinary appearance, a closer look reveals his fair height and solid build, with muscular arms. His ordinary look often deceives enemies, who underestimate his superhuman strength.
