Al is a gnome apprentice responsible for maintaining the gravity levels of Aqua to match those of Man-Home. Despite his youthful appearance and short stature, he is actually nineteen years old. He has a habit of making "old guy jokes," which irritate Aika whenever she's around. Al wears glasses, though it's unclear if his eyesight is particularly poor. Like all gnomes, he has excellent night vision, thanks to their underground lifestyle. In the manga, he initially suffers from fainting spells, likely due to gnomes' unfamiliarity with the summer heat in Neo-Venezia. Al resides on Ukijima, where he often took care of Akatsuki and Woody when they were younger. Aika harbors a crush on Al, becoming shy in his presence. Over time, her crush evolves into love, though she remains highly embarrassed by it. This embarrassment is exacerbated by Alice and Akari teasing her whenever she mentions Al's name. Despite this, Al reciprocates Aika's feelings, and they eventually start a relationship.
