Probably one of the better Vagabond volumes of late. After a volume or so of Musashi turning over a new leaf and Takuan's philosophical lecture, a looming fight certainly shook things up. Quite the opponent too.

-Ito vs. Musashi! Let's do this! I've missed the guy, and having no knowledge of the real story behind Musashi, I wasn't expecting this encounter. I guess I should have. With this, is it not safe to say we're heading toward the end? Ito is one of the invincible warriors around. Who else is there left to face, besides Kojiro of course? Yagyuu Sekishusai seems to be on his deathbed. Indeed, the scene with him envisioning Otsu was foreboding. I actually hope he didn't die there. I'd love it if Musashi were to have a conversation with him.

-The chapters with Matahachi and his mother were very touching. She's always loved him despite everything and her advice to him, I think, really got to him. I liked what she said about how his path expands and how he's different from Musashi and herself, and how there's nothing wrong with that. Am I the only one who liked the old bat? In any case, sad to see her go. =(

seeing their personas is great.

Also, kudos to Takehiko - I have just realized how great and nifty Musashi's new style is. I hope Ittosai can be a good mirror to him.

There is an interesting analogy between Musashi and the 羅刹(rasetsu), rakshasa in the translation. They are born from Brahma’s foot, and they are shape changers. The foot part seems ironical right now, once Musashi is a cripple at the moment. On the other hand, he really changes his “shape” when that “demon” appears and urges to fight. Ittosai, called Musashi a demon, but he himsefl is a good one as well (and he’s using a Hanmi, a foot technique). Section 4 of Gishaku says that the title of the demon king Nirrti is the great Raksasa. He holds a sword and has a ferocious appearance. He has a double-edged sword in his right hand, and makes the sign of double-edge sword mudra (ritual gesture) in his left hand. Since Ittosai is hiding his right arm, this really makes sense.

aha...please get some fresh air.

great manga ! next chapter gonna be interesting

Musashi has matured. Back then, he would've jumped at the thought of getting the chance to fight Itousai, but look at him now! He's not expressing even one bit of excitement. He's definitely starting to come to his senses. Personally, I would've been even happier to see him disapprove of fighting entirely, but this is fine for now.

Hopefully this little dispute ends without any trouble.

Awesome chapter. At first Musashi is like, no way, Im peaceful now, but then he is all intrigued by Ittosai's stance and in fighter mode. Can't wait for the duel.

Holy shit its about to happen! Musashi vs Ittosai!

What banger of a Volume this was, god damn Inoue never dissapoints!

Matahatchi and his mother: Great chapters and great closure for them, well handeled by Inoue!

And now we got Musashi vs Ittosai! Musashi clearly changed, he has a new calmness around him!

Yagyu on his deathbed!

I am hyped to see how this will play out! We are definitely in the last third of the story and approching the end!

I didn’t expect that at first but I think I would have liked that Musashi just stop fighting for some time...
