Probably one of the better Vagabond volumes of late. After a volume or so of Musashi turning over a new leaf and Takuan's philosophical lecture, a looming fight certainly shook things up. Quite the opponent too.
-Ito vs. Musashi! Let's do this! I've missed the guy, and having no knowledge of the real story behind Musashi, I wasn't expecting this encounter. I guess I should have. With this, is it not safe to say we're heading toward the end? Ito is one of the invincible warriors around. Who else is there left to face, besides Kojiro of course? Yagyuu Sekishusai seems to be on his deathbed. Indeed, the scene with him envisioning Otsu was foreboding. I actually hope he didn't die there. I'd love it if Musashi were to have a conversation with him.
-The chapters with Matahachi and his mother were very touching. She's always loved him despite everything and her advice to him, I think, really got to him. I liked what she said about how his path expands and how he's different from Musashi and herself, and how there's nothing wrong with that. Am I the only one who liked the old bat? In any case, sad to see her go. =(
