I had the 35th anniversary box when I read the manga all I could say is…
The art was indeed a spectacle for its time…as for the overarching story it got interesting till volume 4 and then the writer/mangaka started to lose focus in terms of some character relationships and how they tie in together in a much meaningful way than it was presented but the ending sort of fixes it in a sense, though it felt to me that it was a a last minute patch work of an ending.
Sold the 35th anniversary collection after I was done reading it to a friend that was fan of the movie and lived during the days when the movie was on VHS.
