Gosh darn this manga.
An idol character? Well, obviously falls in love with a "commoner", then gets very sick because of stress and overwork, starts working on her dream of being somebody completely different, say a mangaka, discovering that the path she chose might be harmful and bad for her - maybe she should instead retire in the name of love and live with the guy she fell for NOPE!
This is brilliant. We know Ruka won't resign because the anime spoiled us - and somehow Hata uses it to his advantage. Now we know this whole "resign or not" is not just delaying Ruka's quitting idolship for Hayate and/or mangakaship, but an actual conflict!
Also Hayate suddenly having to give serious thought to the possibility of getting a girlfriend. I really, really wish this was the focus of the manga (though then it wouldn't really work as a comedy) - just Hayate being SERIOUSLY SCARRED by everybody he ever loved leaving and/or hurting him. His brother, his parents, little A-tan... Seriously, no wonder he won't even considering falling in love with anybody for real - he's scared of having his heart cruelly broken yet again. That also explains perfectly why he's such a hard-worker and gentleman - he's scared sh*tless of people hating him and it's no wonder he is!
Seriously, I love Hayate no Gotoku comedy, but it would be so EPIC to see Hayate no Gotoku serious drama. And don't even get me started on the Katsura sisters! (This would be the only way to make Hinagiku likeable, pretty much)
