Damn, that's some messed up childhood. Poor Asuka. Gotta cause some massive trauma.

If you are not counting several parts of EoE, then I agree.

So, Asuka was effectively created as a means to strike back at her mother's former husband and him leaving her for another woman? I just....don't even know how terrible that must feel to grow up with. Her very existence and reason for being was denied by a doll. No wonder she has grown to be so prideful, she's trying to etch out her reason for living, to justify her existence. If her piloting Eva fails, and it looks like it will, then what does she have left? Nothing.

It's also interesting that her mother, Kyoko, made contact with something and went mad. Was she perhaps a scientist related to the Eva project and came into contact with an Angel? Which drove her mad?

Yeah she's undoubtably the most complex and nuanced out of everyone

Asuka's flashback was slightly different from the anime. Quite a bit more information, but much shorter. This is own first hint (in the manga) that the angels are more intelligent that was originally thought. (in the anime, it was when Shinji fell into the shadow) In this chapter, it was examining humans.

Asuka is the best character in the franchise, and it just keeps showing with every chapter

A horrifyingly disturbing chapter.

Asuka has it even worse than Shinji. At least Shinji's mother loved him...

Terrible, terrible childhood for her. When you consider what she has gone through, her actions are that more bearable.
