Gunnm Chapter 48 Discussion

Damn, Alita finally had a chance to kill Desty, but she let it go. She jacked his mouth up tho. Alita forces Desty to reveal Zalem's dark secret that caused Ido to start losing his sanity. Apparently all Zalemite citizens don't have brains. When they reach age 19, they have a procedure done that takes their brain out and copies it to a biochip that is then embedded in their head as a new brain. So they're essentially the opposite of the cyborgs. This gets into the whole philosophical aspect of what it means to truly be human and at what point does using cyborg parts make you a robot and less human. Pretty cool concept here with Zalem's secret.  Desty's hypothesis is that Zalem is one giant experiment. The director starts losing his mind (no pun intended) after learning this information. He cuts off his scalp to see if he has a brain, but just as Desty proved, he doesn't.

Desty manages to make his escape as Alita helps Kaos. Kaos tries to prevent Desty from escaping as well. As Desty is cornered, he unleashes his bad bitch to go after Alita, but it proves fruitless. Alita transcends her own abilities and cuts through her opponent. Nice.

It was fun to see Gally's boss go crazy. Technically the Zalemites are no longer humans, they are machines with a human body.

Spanish translation:

Fue divertido ver al jefe de Gally enloquecer. Tecnicamente los Zalemitas ya no son humanos, son maquinas con cuerpo humano.

That was a pretty good and unexpected twist.
