This is such a fun novel, but I can only rate it 4 stars because the ML ruins it for me.The FL is a tomboy-ish, no BS type of character and is very refreshing among the 'poor girl finds her biological rich family' genre. However, any time the ML shows up, it feels like the FL doesn't interact with him in the way her personality is written out to be.It doesn't help that the ML is the most un-interesting piece of cardboard cutout among the many compelling and likeable side characters. Spoiler
I even feel that Li Che, who shows up nearly 100 chapters in and only gets a few chapters dedicated to him has more depth than the ML.
[collapse] Also, the consistency of the ML's character feels all over the place. If the author changed the ML's name every 20 chapters I wouldn't even doubt that they're different characters.Another critique I have are about the antagonists. Their IQs are so low that, even though the scenes of face-slapping them is fun, it doesn't feel very rewarding when it happens. SpoilerOne other complaint about the ML: in a couple scenes when the FL and antagonists are confronting each other, building up to a big slap in the face, the ML interjects and the moment completely falls flat which made me kinda pissed because the FL was fully capable of handling the situations herself. In fact, it probably would have been more satisfying if she did just handle it herself.
[collapse]If the novel ended at around chapter 100, I likely would have rated it 5 stars, but unfortunately the ML had to exist so it didn't.
