I wish I could throw this book into a pit of fire.
As someone who has experienced SA as a child/teen, there's nothing I detest more than the unnecessary use of it in literature.
For it to be part of the main character's background, it made enough sense to fit in the story. However, when the MC got kidnapped, what happened during was disgusting.
I didn't cry reading because it was well written enough to make me empathize with the character. I HAD to cry because the author wrote something so heinous for a couple of sympathy points from the ML.
What purpose did it serve?! Anything, from a foot sprain to blood draining could have served the same purpose, without further trauma to the MC.
In fact, the story doesn't feel complete at end because:
1- the ML never shows nothing further than light interest or pity until the very end.
2- any and all emotional growth the MC had, the author shredded it with the SA.
3- ultimately, there's no strong foundation for them to stick together after the story finalizes. Even though it ended on a happy note (with them both immortal and together), it feels like a BE in the sense that everything in their lukewarm relationship points to a breakup.[collapse]
