When MC's online taxi driver would actually keep watch around her when she was about to enter her abode, the first thing that popped out in my mind is 'Heck, he did that? Really? What's the online taxi app? I must rate it highly'.
The thing is just that it's so rare to happen. It's like finding a random Celebi in your neighborhood.
[collapse]Everyone in this novel felt like aliens to me, because the modern-day China that I know of isn't this 'dreamy, kind and gentle Cinderella land' like the novel depicted. Maybe because the setting is modern, so I subconsciously read it as the current China soooo well, iykyk.SpoilerI'm already frowning when the dragon phoenix quilt side plot happened, because the middle-aged Chinese couples I knew... Each of them are more patriarchal than the other. Usually the child would care more about the parents while the husband doesn't care one whit about his spouse (or off cheating with the outer room) 🙄 To add to it, the MC decided not to charge the quoted price to the man after she toiled for 5 days till dawn. If it wasn't a Mary Sue-level of kindness, I don't know what else would qualify.
And I'd be okay with that if the husband's an admirable one, but he only remembered his wedding night's promise to his wife when she's at death's door. She deserved better.
[collapse]I won't rate this story because the problem was that I've never seen this kind of dreamy and gentle Chinese Cinderella land. It felt weird reading about a kind and good modern C-Novel MC without being reminded about the social credit system 😅
