Super Card System Chapter 436 Discussion

One of the first Fanfictions I've ever read, and I'm kinda baffled at how good it is. If you're a fan of those Novels where our MC Isekais into a game or book they are intimately familiar with, then this should click well for you.

Our MC is a "Swordsman" with a Gacha system based around cards. I've never played a Gacha like this but the comparison I'm using in my head is the MMORPG Lost Ark. You draw cards of characters that inhabit the world and you get a fraction of their power. You can upgrade those cards with duplicates. The difference here is the cards aren't just a fraction. They are the whole damn kit. There are cards for many well known franchises like King of Fighters and Inuyasha, but this is NOT a multiverse story. If you aren't familiar with those franchises, your eyes will absolutely glaze over trying to make sense of why we can shoot purple flames now.

This system I think isn't just our MCs greatest flaw but also the story's greatest flaw. To draw cards, our MC needs to convert cold hard cash. I'm talking millions and millions of Beli. And naturally our MC works towards that goal. That itself isn't really the problem. The problem is why I called our MC a "swordsman". After a certain point in the story (and for the record, the MC IS conscious of this) our MC treats his system as a Devil Fruit. And instead of his blade being his main form of attack, now it's really more about his cards pulling out batsh*t abilities. It's not bad per say our MC doesn't feel too overpowered and he can get stomped out like a light by many stronger forces. But it's obvious that the card system, despite being the hardest part of the novel to grasp plays the biggest role in any and all action. The action sequences written before the MC secures enough money to upgrade his system and relies on his swordplay and wits is written A LOT better imo. The fights end up far more interesting, intense, and witty.

Otherwise, the story is engaging and well paced (if a bit fast at times), our MC has the intelligence of some of One Piece's smarter characters, the impulsiveness of people like Luffy and Ace, and the heart of a good natured pragmatist. It makes for a unique spice that pairs well with any dish. By that I mean he feels like he belongs in the world. He's not just existing along-side it. And this translator or editor brings this story to life. Seriously.

Give it a shot. Even if you think you hate fanfiction or you hate Chinese Isekai, I think you can find something special here without much digging at all.
