I commented this on the foxaholic website under this story, but I'd like to say it here too. While this story may have flaws in the character writing, (mainly them having inconsistent motivations, being s*upid when they aren't supposed to be, or both) there is a genuine creativity that's hard to find elsewhere in the iseaki genre. The protagonist's magic, Spoiler

abyss magic

[collapse] has the craziest spells. Like he can summon hags that shove bugs down the victims throat which results in them vomiting until they die, he can summon some bandaged up nurse who has their guts spill out then turns the organs into sharp projectiles, and sumon this giant, smiling, face that just chomps down on whatever he wants it too. I'd say The magic alone is worth reading this for, just because of how fascinating it is.

Of course the magic wasn't the only reason I stayed. The author makes a decent attempt to add intrigue and mystery into the story, and for the most part I enjoy it. Although it tends to feel poorly paced and kind of sidelined because of how the protagonist feels about it

Spoiler

The protagonist, at least in most cases, values exploring the world a lot, because of this the protag kinda puts off investigating because he wants to have the fantasy adventure he always dreamed about.

[collapse]

If you stick with this novel for a bit you'll eventually see how unique this novel can be compared to other iseakis. Personally I think its because of the atmosphere, and kinda hard to describe. There's also a manga, and the art fit REALLY well with the atmosphere I got from the novel, so maybe that'll help get across what I'm trying to say.

On a final note I just want to say that I think its sad no one seems to be translating this story. I miss when there were daily uploads and really hope I'll be able to finish it one day.

I am based in New York and can feel the pages coming alive with every chapter. The novel is so well-written, affordable (like really cheap!!) and addictive, it's like watching sex and the city thrice a week. Well done Amanda!
