I wish I could write a longer review going deep into detail on what I dislike about this novel, but I will refrain so I can at least keep a bit of my blood pressure constant. For now, I am only going to write about the main relationships that have truly irked me. Apologies in advance for the rant.

At first I enjoyed the read at the first 10 or so chapters. It made me tear up every once in a while as I deeply resonated with her situation. The issues and everything, truly made me hope Violet would finally have her happy end. As happy as she could have it that is.

Unfortunately, I can no longer read any further. I could already tell where it was heading. Although I am quite skilled with pushing through in reading terribly written works, or works that raises one's blood pressure, this one felt like unnecessary suffering on my end. I am used to eating sweet potatoes. This feels like I'm v*miting blood every minute. Especially more so since I see a bit of my troubles in Violet. The most I will get from this novel is grievances over what it should've been and unnecessary tears shed from the ab*se Violet goes through.

I do not like the father. I do not like Violet's older brother nor her second brother. I have no need to read further and see whether or not her third brother is redeemable. Truly, they all infuriate me.

Spoiler

Violet made it adamantly clear that she wished no one would be permitted to visit her. All of the people she did not wish to see had violated her wishes. Did her father do anything about it? Just a simple slap on the wrist. He still visits Violet and bothers her by making her uncomfortable. I mean truly, are you so dense that you can't tell how she feels? Can you not read the room? One slap for the father. He also did nothing, remaining apathetic despite having the power to fix or help the situation. He is the type of father I despise most. Don't even bring up the "He cared in his own way" bs. Another slap for the father. Asking for Violet's painting so he can brag to the king? I'm surprised you're a duke. I wonder just how many more braindead nobles gained such a high position. Why do you think your daughter asked to be imprisoned in the annex?! She doesn't want the attention. Also why "brag" about Violet's art when you've never even cared for her properly to the point she had to ask what she was to you? 10, 000+ slaps to the father. Don't appear in front of me again.

Spoiler

All I'm going to say about the oldest brother. Just no. I can't tell which brother was worse, Mikhail, Derrick from Death is the Only Ending for a Villainess, or Ricardo from Solitary Lady. Repeatedly physically as*aulting your younger sister for a cousin? He deserves 20, 000+ slaps.

The second brother. Oh lord. I despise his attempts to "fix" the relationship. She did not accept your apology nor did she forgive you. And she made it clear she did not want to fix the relationship. She had given up. If you truly wanted to try, don't bother the poor girl. Why go through so much trouble just to bother her and make it worse for her? It just shows how much he's doing this more to ease his guilt and feel better. It doesn't feel genuine when he apologizes. No "his eyes were sincere" would convince me. It feels like its more out of pity rather than actual regret. Actually pity AND sympathy. Except the sympathy is distant like an outsider clicking their tongue at the sight of someone going through hardship. And continuing to mention Aileen to the person who's life was ruined by said person? At this point everyone in the family inherited the father's low iq and eq. I truly feel sorry to Violet for being born in such a household. At this point I can't even rank the amount of slaps I'd give.

Spoiler

What truly infuriated me was that I could tell she was going to forgive them. And seeing the other reviews, I guess I was right. Honey, I really feel sorry for what you went through, but you need a slap as well. And a therapist. Staying with the same people who had a*used you and staying in a toxic environment, is never good for anyone. It will just sink you deeper into the abyss of manipulation and suffering. The longer you stay, the harder is becomes to leave. I am truly angered to know that she won't leave. That she will forgive them.

IMO. I would've been fine if it ended up like Karina's Last Days. Or even better, if she ran away in the middle of the night to live freely on her own. Truly an unfortunate read for me.
