Wow I was just talking about how evocative of Jonathan some of Jotaro’s moves are when he did the headbutt!! It like paralleled the headbutt Jonathan did to evade the oncoming Thunder Cross Split attack. Both as a quick thinking response to avoid an incoming attack and both launching the two backwards. Love to see that stuff, and after the barrage of parries and attacks at that. This is a cool fight, this arc has been seriously cool from the first pages.
Now two master swordsmen are against Jotaro! A stand using a stand!!! And it was too much for Jotaro to keep up with as they pierced through his gut. However, Anubis preemptively started to gloat, you don’t do that!! You double tap, crush their head, and then gloat.
Even though I have confidence in Jotaro coming back and winning this fight like a badass, it felt pretty good to see him take such a painful blow and express it too. That confidence is something I think comes in spades for Stardust Crusaders, where the only permanent blow or serious loss that was dealt had been relived in Abdul’s return. With the episodic nature, we get in a state of mind that the villains will always get beaten cleanly within the arc, but I do expect that comfort to genuinely be ripped away at some point. Presumably with Dio but maybe one of these final bosses while we’re at it.
And somehow it was just now when I was thinking of the big losses the cast may have taken on this journey that I realized Kakyoin will totally arrive just in the nick of time to save the day at some point so if everything looks gloomy, we have that trump card to stay hopeful.
