The Sun's effect on them was getting worse and worse, with its killer laser beams killing off their poor camels and the heat vaporizing even the most hardy of scorpions.

I as the reader can fully sympathize with Joseph for not seeing through the trick immediately and being confused by the inane, menacing laughter of everyone else. The Sun being introduced as such a powerful enemy only to be defeated by a very simple throw was pretty funny.

This was an incredibly interesting idea!  A stand, not unlike Lovers or Yellow Temperance with a goal to slowly kill from afar, but offering a unique challenge.  As the heat burned everything around them, Kakyoin flew to the sun like Icarus, Polnareff had to deflect the Evangelion angel-esque attacks, and Jotaro dug for cover.  As always I adore when we blend the strength of numerous stands together, and it created a question.  What is the solution?!

Joseph gave a line that will probably ring true to be a general guiding rule of stands, if a stand is strong we can assume the stand user needs to be nearby.  So following this, after an insane laughing fit, the gang pointed out that they spotted the trick and we got one of my favorite panels of Star Platinum, tossing a rock like a baseball and taking out their enemy in one blow.  I am partly disappointed, because such a great concept could have made for one of the most unique “fights” in the series, serving more as a puzzle.  But we did get great stuff out of it.  Joseph even comments on if they’re allowed to beat a stand user so quickly without even learning their name!  Araki was certainly self aware, a big part of the humor is in that they took down such a gargantuan threat so easily, and honestly their enemy was smart, using the best terrain to fight and even hiding behind a reflection!

The laughter reminded me of the wonderful Nichijou “elevator 3” scene!

One of my favourite confrontations. I'm glad it played out in a funny way (and Joseph antics are always welcomed).

On the other hand, what if it had been stretched just enough to make it more mysterious while keeping the jokes? (Given the temperature, I'm not sure what could have been, so let's be glad it came out as short as it is.)
