Joseph Joestar may have an airplane curse. Polnareff? His is a toilet curse. We still have a long way to go, so perhaps he’ll have another fate like this. A pig, a disgusting toilet to clean with his tongue. Gross, what next? Anyways yeah, Polnareff’s tongue was pierced rather than his eyeball which is probably good, but he was puppeteered around as Enya ordered the lifeless husks to laugh and she tortured him. Jotaro, who was always suspicious, has questioned Enya about his whereabouts. Looks like we got a second rescue mission for our boy Polnareff! And just putting it out there, Hol Horse is still crawling around and it looks like everyone is ignoring him but I’m sure he can still use his stand if he isn’t controlled for a moment which could come in handy. Also, I think Justice is my favorite stand so far by design. Conceptually, I like the Hanging Man better(especially when teaming up with Emperor), but visually Justice is radical.
It honestly feels like, at times, Polnareff is the main character of this part. His background is explored, his motivations are pursued, he struggles and faces his flaws, he grows. And in a large way, I feel like Stardust Crusaders is the least character focused out of all the Jojo parts thus far. Phantom Blood can be described as a character study of what makes the ultimate good and the ultimate evil and how those kinds of people would clash. The first volume being about the ingredients that made such people who they are makes this clear as day. Battle Tendency is the charismatic Joseph Joestar, his character is why many consider it so amazing. Stardust Crusaders however, doesn’t seem to invest nearly as much into the characters. This is partially because there are so many of them and we explore them all bit by bit through their adventures, and make sure to distinguish them enough to be their own flavour of cool, badass, and funny. And in a sense, it seems like through the fighting focus, the gang ends up feeling like more of a unit to me than individuals, with focus on making their unity feel like the substantial character of the part. Yet, Polnareff kind of goes against that! He totally stands out in every sense and gets tons of meaningful time to shine as an individual.
