This had to be the most bizarre Jojo has ever been up until now. Most strangeness in Jojo isn’t all that weird in context. However, this chapter took me off guard. A prideful monkey in love with a child controlling a freighter and flexing with rubix cubes. Even denying one of the rules of stands and that being mentioned; that non stand users could see it. I feel like this was Araki suggesting that the rules we know about stands are not by any means objective. They are just what people assume by pattern recognition and serve as a basic guideline, and with this he has proven to us that we will see stands that don’t fit what we or even Abdul expect. The fact that Star Platinum won by stretching was also quite shocking, in retrospect I realize that is what it did to win in the water against their last enemy but I didn’t parse it at the time. I wonder if any part of Star Platinum can stretch…
The coolest part of this chapter for me was when Jotaro caught all of the glass and used it as claws for a punch. It was super evocative of Jonathan Joestar catching all of the snakes in Phantom Blood and shockingly, Star Platinum did the Jonathan pose right before doing it!
