And with this I begin part 3. The first two pages were a shock. First, a good, athletic little boy then cutting to him getting beefy and telling his mom to shut the hell up. It’s a strong start for the first Jojo that’s not named so due to a Joestar in his name. Jotaro Kujo, half Japanese as was suggested with Joseph’s racist remarks at the end of part 2, and half American with that good old British descent. He beat up a gang of punks, hospitalizing him, and is refusing release from jail because of the evil spirit inside of him. He suggested he had a hard time stopping the fight from before, probably nearly killing them. He’s got a mean glare, and he made a show of his power, chugging beer, reading shounen jump; not so unlike Joseph reading some superman comics I suppose, and even shooting himself in the head without fear, trusting the spirit to stop it. He made a display to get them to go away and if he’s really trying to stop himself from committing more acts of violence, maybe there’s some good intentions in this kid. I do assume the hothead of Joseph may be deep inside his grandson though.
I'm curious if he has a good relationship with his father. If I recall, Joseph's father died early in his life just as Jonathan's did, and in the flashback here we didn't see Jotaro's father. Rather only his mother and we heard that he is a jazz musician on tour, perhaps Jotaro doesn't know him too well either.
Meanwhile, it looks like best character Dio Brando is coming back! While if so, in the canon he’s been around for a few years from what it appears which means he should be more dangerous than he was in Phantom Blood. Jonathan’s battle with Dio ended before Dio could take control of much of the world at all, he stopped him early. If he’s around and he’s building his forces then we may get a taste of what would have happened if Dio won, because, in a sense he will have, having outlived Jonathan.
