Depending on the part of the story, my personal rating has fluctuated anywhere from 1-4 stars. I can say without a single doubt in my mind that this story does not deserve a 5 star rating. However, it is at least better than the horendous anime.There are a lot, and I mean A LOT of problems I have with this novel. I was genuinely interested in the story at several parts, both during the main plot and the after story. While almost every character and every situation reek with cringe, it is mostly to the point of mildly amusing. However, some characters are completely unbearable and 100% unlikable. The saddest part of this is that the author, especially of late, decided to spend several character arcs with only them and none of the more likable characters. To put it vaguely as to not spoil anything, I especially don't like the MC's rival, or his right-hand-man. They are both terribly written characters that aren't interesting, and detract negatively from the story. I think that the best part of the story was the very beginning, and slowly got worse. It peaked from time to time, and some of the arcs after the BBG's demise ranged from interesting to lightly humorous. However, the last 3-4ish major arcs have all been utter garbage, literally 1 star seems like too high a rating.I know that I should just drop this novel, but I'm still stuck in the sunk cost fallacy. I think 3 stars might be too many, and I feel like I generally give stories the benefit of the doubt. I didn't go into the details about how the MC is a Mary Sue, how 2D most of the characters were, how tropey the story is, or how many Deus Ex machina are in the story, because that isn't my main concern. I can enjoy a story that has any or all of these characteristics. I cannot ignore, however, is how bad this story has gotten. I feel like the author has run out of ideas, but is just trying to either milk the fanbase or not let them down by ending the series (I don't know anything about the author and won't put words into their mouth). I'll probably continue reading this continually declining story, but I don't recommend anyone else to do the same. If you've made it this far through my rant, I say give it a try only if you have nothing else to do. While the anime was putrid, it wasn't that surprising, as almost every light/web novel adaptation is terrible. I don't think it's worth your time to read the entire story, but everyone has their own tastes.
