We all knew the relationship between plot and flags.
Not only it's on the novels, it's can be found in any forms of story telling.
And yet, what was the best and the worst way of raising the flag? Im curious...
Nor did i know that fame and the infamous flag words, but most of the time i knew the type of the raised flag.

Like
"what could go wrong" = death, trouble, direct karmic backlash. Ahh... Sweet flag

If someone says the phrase "Did it die?" after a tough battle, then the author will most likely use it as a "revival spell" that not only points out the fact that it did not die, but has also made it even stronger.

No, it's because you're a white guy talking about flags.

When two characters have a fight due to a misunderstanding, and then one of the characters was going to apologize 'the next time they meet'
Usually after that the other character will die, enter a comatose state, or maybe the one who was going to apologize suddenly has a traffic accident and lost their memory.

...maybe I watch too much soap opera.

it's not a specific example but the cliche soldier says, right before a huge battle, "when i return home i'm going to marry my sweetheart." I swear i read a novel once that actually had a bit that made fun of that specific version of the cliche'd trope.

I don't know if this is just with bakarina but i don't think so (and i don't know if this is a flag) : when clueless oblivious mc finally understand that someone love them romantically but shit happens and the mc Forget about it later.

A flag is a plot twist that the readers expect, but comes as an unpleasant surprise to the character who raised it(?)

I think I don't make sense anymore...
