So to resume, Yu Lan was in love with Sheng Youting for 11 years and got to marry him because of her father and little sister Ye Yie’shemes. Apparently Yu Lan an Ye Yie are step sisters. She’s the daughter of her step mother and her father who married her biological mother for money and then after her death, took in his mistress and her daughter Ye Yie. They plotted to get all her fortunes which was unfortunately all given to Yu Lan to be inherited. To rob all the fortunes of Yu Lan’s mother, they had to get her married because
her mother’s will stated that if she ever got married and didn’t requested for her shares within the 2 years, her mother’s shares would be left in her husband’s hand to share. However her mother didn’t imagine that her husband would have betrayed her and give all of her shares to his illegitimate child.
As for Yu Yie, she was in love with Sheng Youting bt the reason why she decided to set him up with Yu Lan was because She was afraid he would get to out of her reach if she made him wait any longer. She was also afraid he would know the truth about her only saving him during the hearthquakes. [She did save him by getting him to the hospital but the one who really devoted herself into risking her life getting crushed under all the rumbles and searching for him for hours until her fingers bled and with injuries all over her body was Yu Lan. He never knew it because while he was taken to the hospital to be treated, She collapsed and was left to be discovered by rescuers later. Yu Yie took advantage of that story and seduced Shen Youtiang so his feeling of gratitude twisted to « love »] She did her best into talking sh*ts about Yu Lan mistreating her and made look like a wicked and cunning woman. She got engaged to him. And then a day before wedding with Shen Youtiang, She trapped Yu Lan and him, made it look like she deceived him into having an affair with his fiance’s big sister and the next day instead of Yu Yie, he was forced to marry Yu Lan which made him « hate » her for the last two years of their marriage.
Yu Lan did her best to make their marriage work it but Shen Youtiang’s cold behavior made her lose all
Afraid that Youtiang would ever learn the truth someday and because Yu Yie and her father wanted to get her mother’s property and shares for themselves. Ye Yie manipulated Youtiang and made him think Yu Lan was a cunning b*tch. They also deceived him into marrying her with him by causing a press scandal and made him hate her even more for a whole 2 years. Because if she did get married, within 2 years all her mother’s property according to a will, will be passed on to her father to share. Her father gave everything to her sister who then plotted to get Shen Youtiang back and become Mme Shen.
At first Yu Lan was the one who wanted divorce but because she was finally aware of her father and sister’s wrong doings, she decided to fight back by never allowing a divorce so her sister would never have the maw she always wanted.
Even if Shen Youtiang acted like he disgusted Yu Lan, he still fell in love with her but was not aware of it or more like refused it because he thought himself to be in love with his savior Yu Yie. Yu Yie noticed his change of attitudes and to get his attention She pretended to attempt suicide. The same day You Lan learned she was pregnant and intended to tell Youtiang about it but He ignored her because Yu Yie was more important as She « almost died for him ». Because of him and her father’s aggression then She pentted a lot of stress and had a miscarriage. Youtiang worried a lot and regreted his actions and wanted to take care of her. Then he witnessed Yu Yie harassing Yu Lan about her miscarriage by bringing her fœtus in a fiol flauting it over her nose, made Yu Lan panic and desperate and was very disappointed with her and chased her out of the hospital. Yu Lan was then diagnosted to be infertile and her mind conditions worsened. Because She could no longer give birth to an heir, the Shen family and her father plotted to get her divorce Shen Youtiang and let Yu Yie marry him.
She then got divorced to him without his presence thanks to the Shen family and left him by disappearing with Meng Shaoqian ( a friend of Shen Youtiang who was also in love with her for a very long time)
Youtiang was enraged with his family and kept rejecting Yu Yie who thought that with Yu Lan left, she would be the next Mme Shen. But Youtiang missed her so much. He rebelled against his family, refused to get married again and went out with different women every single days.
He searched for her for a very long time but could find her only 1 or 2 years later because she changed her name. She was already married to Meng Shaoqian and lived her life happily and was said to be pregnant with his child. Determined to get her back by every means even if she had a child with another man, he made a mess in Meng Shaoqian´s family business as a revenge for stealing her from him and chased them. But he was too late and arrived only when she « died » in child labor.
Her death drove him crazy and made him lose himself. He revenged all her past suffering by getting back all of her properties and her mother’s house from her Yu family. Drove her step mother into a corner and made her life miserable. Robbed away all her father’s shares and left him with only a pile of depts to deal with. But because Yu Yie resembled her so much, he made literally Yu Yie into her replacement. He forced her to wear all of Yu Lan’s clothes, forced her into imitating all of Yu Lan’s manerism, behaviour, preferences, way of speaking, voice and everything. He even forced her to get plastic surgery just to make her the sosie of Yu Lan (her face, her body, her hair… all of her was made to look like Yu Lan) but because She was just a pale copy, every time she made a mistake and acted differently to how Yu Lan would have acted in the past, he will be enraged with her.
But thruth to be told Yu Lan never died. It was all a planned by Meng Shaoqian. In reality, Yu Lan had a hidden twin sister she wasn’t even aware of (aside from Meng Shaoqian no one knew). He killed her and made her look as much as Yu Lan to deceive Shen Youtiang into believing Yu Lan’s death so he could keep her for him forever.
Also, when Yu Lan had a miscarriage, she was in fact pregnant with twins. So only one of child died and she gave birth to the other one safely and raised him with Meng Shaoqian. She thought about going far away with Meng Shaoqian but because of her child’s poor health due to premature birth, they couldn’t and had to stay in remoted city.
Shen Youtiang discovered that She was alive when he went on a business trip and coincidentally saw Meng Shaoqian enjoying himself with a brunette lady. He thought it was strange because he knew Meng Shaoqian was as crazy in love with Yu Lan as he was so he made an investigation and went again to meet Meng Shaoqian and see if the « brunette lady » ressembled Yu Lan. But it was her. With a daughter of 2 years old.
He was then extasic to see she was alive and made an attempt to get close to her and see the child even if he thought it was Meng Shaoqian‘s child but she screamed with all her heart and reluctantly released her.
After all that, he threatened Meng Shaoqian to give her back by completely ruining his family business but Meng Shaoqian didn’t bulge. He then threatened Yu Lan to make Meng Shaoqian´s life and business miserable if she didn’t get back with him. So she reluctantly went to him in order to protect Meng Shaoqian.
Shen Youtiang made every effort to make her love him again but seeing her desperately protecting Meng Shaoqian and her child as she wanted to go back to him, her « husband ».
In the spur of the moment he then told her that he will never let her go unless she gives her current child to him or she gives birth to a child of his. She refused to give her child and agreed to give birth for him. But that will not ever be possible and he knew that because a year after her supposedly death, he had a vasectomy. So he only made random excuses to get her to stay with him as longer as he could, if not said forever.
With many ups and down, they will slowly get close to each other but Yu Lan will still have difficulties to trust him. Even more when she will see Yu Yie’s new appearance…
