I saw this on @catharcity’s site, one of her recommended novels, so I was curious after read the summary~

Summary from Catharcity’s site:
It turns out, he was the Crown Prince: one who had poisoned his mother, murdered his brother and controlled the Emperor in order to usurp the title of Crown Prince. His ruthlessness and heartlessness caused a wave of horror to ripple across the country.

While he danced in political circles and conspired schemes, she searched tirelessly for him for six years, yet, in the end, all that awaited her was a letter of divorce… It was difficult to fault him for abandoning her so easily. She was just his lowly wife, one who lived and worked in a brothel.

Once, in Shangyang City, the four of them were childhood friends. Now, it turns out that all of them were destined for great things, except for her…

Spoilers please!! @catharcity?

What do you mean with “However, nothing is as it seems...”? Is MC someone important too??
Did 2ML and 2FL get together?
And is HE right?
I can’t see how angst this is, but is written by @catharcity that is 4/5, what happened?

They're all from my list of romance/ angst novel recs here:
https://catharcity.wordpress.com/romanceangst-novel-recommendations/

Most of them are not on novelupdates because no one's translated them. Probably because few people read angst and fewer read tragedies, so only the most famous tragedies like Hua Xu Yin/ Eastern Palace/ Tong Hua & Fei Wo Si Cun's books etc have been translated. I'm not sure which of the novels I rec'ed have been translated since I read the chinese text.

Chinese. The title is 太子弃妃:青楼季九儿 by 如果囧

Nothing is as it seems refers to Gongzi Ce's marriage with Yun Su. Ji Jiu'er is not someone important. But Gongzi Ce only married Yun Su because she used her family's power to coerce him; first by helping him to usurp the seat of the Crown Prince, then leveraging on her threats to force him to marry her.

Yun Su and Xiao Liangchen kind of got together, but not quite. Xiao Liangchen begged Gongzi Ce to let Yun Su free (after all she & the Yun family did against him & Ji Jiu'er)... Yun Su was the villain of this story, so I don't think she deserved a good ending. >.<

It's a happy ending for Ji Jiu'er and Gongzi Ce. The book is relatively long. The first half is a flashback to their youth, the second from when Ji Jiu'er receives Gongzi Ce's letter of divorce. The second half is quite political.

The angst is 4/5 mostly because the author writes in a very tear-jerker style, but this book is not heavy/ depressing like Shattered Glass. Mostly because we know that the ending is going to be happy, so it's just a long journey before we get there. But we don't ever feel the same sense of helplessness/ hopelessness like in tragedies.
