There’s a small volume afterwards and it features Merria planning and celebrating Reukis’s birthday at the seaside villa. I guess this is important because he hasn’t acknowledged or celebrated his birthday ever since his parents died. So Merria spends the day celebrating with him. Reukis is normally an extremely easy to please guy but Merria wanted to give him a memorable birthday. One of the gifts she gives him is the agreement to marry her stamped by her family’s seal (her father did it) and framed in a special frame. Reukis was quite shocked because he was prepared to go try to win her father over so that he can marry her with her family’s blessing.
Reukis wants to get married as soon as possible. Merria doesn’t mind but she knows that a lot of preparations would be necessary so it cannot be as soon as Reukis wants. When they return to the capital from their vacation, Reukis goes back to work but visits Merria’s father at his office first. The man demands that Reukis make a temple pledge on his life that he will not hurt Merria. As usual, Reukis readily agrees to this in order to marry Merria. The father stipulates if he doesn’t agree to it, he would give up his title to his daughter Serreina and it would make the stamped certificate void and it would afterwards take a long time before Merria would become his bride. Reukis, who would do anything for Merria, agrees.
On the day of the marriage, Merria’s friends and cousins visit her. Derek, her little cousin, cries and says she promised that she won’t get married. Merria tells him that she’s sorry but she wants to marry Reukis. Lillian is there too with her new suitor Jeffrey. Then another young lady comes. She’s the one who asked Merria at her first social tea party if she and Reukis are dating. lol Anyway, Derek sees this girl for the first time and he can’t take his eyes off of her. I guess that may be foreshadowing that he likes her. The same girl is also the one who tipped Merria off that the second prince(it really could be his mother or his faction too) bought double the arrows for the hunting event. That’s how Merria became suspicious that something terrible might happen at the hunting event and she warns Karina who in turns warned Altheon. That’s why Karina insisted on giving Altheon a protection bracelet which eventually saved him life because he would have burn up in the blast.
Merria and Reukis exchange their vows while she has no clue that her father made Reukis make a pledge that his life will be forfeit if he hurts her. The priest thinks about this as they make the promises to each other.
