Rosaline's father is still scolding her and she starts talking back to him. When he's about to hit her over the head with a heavy candlestick, her mother shields her and yells at her husband to stop.
Rosaline is shocked because her mother has never stood up to her father before. She tells her that a husband and children won't necessarily make her happy, and she shouldn't suffer in a miserable marriage like herself.
Then she brings Rosaline to her room and gives her a bag of money and jewels and tells her to run away for a while until her father calms down. She apologizes for not being a good mother and not being able to do more for her and then sends Rosaline out a back door.
At the pier, Rosaline cries as she thinks that some people probably think her love is childish. She recalls how she was so excited to marry Kyle and tried so hard to be a good wife because she wanted to be loved. But now her heart is weary. She hesitates but lets go of her regrets and gets on the boat.
Dialog in this chapter was a bit confusing, but I'll try my best
Rosaline is still tending to Albert's wounds and apologizes for the duke's behavior. He says she must still think of him closely otherwise, she wouldn't apologize on behalf of an unrelated person. She denies it and starts talking about how she used to love the Duke, but it was unrequited so she gave up. It was only later that she found out she was already pregnant.
Then she thinks about how scared she was to raise a child alone with no one to rely on. She even considered going back. But she made up her mind to stand on her own and be strong for her child. She tells Albert that what's certain is her feelings are no longer the same and the only one she cares about now is Leo.
Albert says he mistook her to be soft, but she's actually a strong person and then asks her out to dinner again while kissing her hand. It's a common kiss, but the tone of his voice makes her lightly blush. Albert remarks that it's raining. This makes Rosaline wonder if Kyle got home alright since he was also injured and then scolds herself for worrying about him. Rosaline says that she hates the rain, and Albert replies that he does, too, because she hates the rain. Rosaline blushes and smiles in embarrassment.
A few days later at the duke's, Kyle is trying to do work, but he keeps thinking about Rosaline's interactions with Albert. The way she kindly smiled at Albert is the way she used to smile at him, and it's painful. As he's lost in thought, a maid from Rosaline's house arrives to deliver a message from Rosaline's mother. (The translation for the rest of the chapter is really fuzzy...)
She says that the little one(?) went to the market and disappeared. She asked Kyle if he could send out a search party to help. Kyle, thinking Rosaline disappeared, reprimands why she didn't have a guard following her. He remembers in the past, when he still lived in the village, villagers would suddenly disappear, and he couldn't do anything to protect them. As an adult, he would have nightmares about it, and Rosaline would kindly ask him if he had a bad dream. After she left, she appeared in his nightmares, too.
He sends out some troops and runs off to look for her. He has a different feeling of helplessness now than when she left before because he doesn't even know if she's dead or alive. He's scared of losing her. Some time later, the butler comes in to tell him the person has been found, but it turns out that it wasn't Rosaline who was lost but Leo. Kyle sighs in relief seeing he's ok. Kyle plays with Leo until he falls asleep, then asks a servant if Rosaline is on the way. He goes out to meet her and finds her crying in the garden. Seeing her cry makes him feel like his heart is being crushed, and he realizes that he was being too simple-minded by only being relieved that nothing happened. He walks over and hugs her and says "thank god." He recalls how he was brought up to control his emotions again, but in front of her, everything he learned becomes irrelevant. He thinks that if anything really happened to her, he would be buried under deep water, unable to breath. He remembers what Rosaline said about how love feels like being overwhelmed by everything, and he realizes that if that's what love is, then he loves her.
Rosaline's POV. She brings Leo to the market. While she's talking to a merchant about buying a book for him, she turns around and he's no longer in sight. She searches for him frantically and then thinking he may have gone home, she runs back to the house to ask her mother if Leo was there. They send out servants to search for him but because of their recent circumstances, they have limited staff. Rosaline goes out again to look for him in the rain. Then a maid comes to tell her that Leo was found, and he's at the duke's estate.
When she arrives, she feels a bit overwhelmed by the grandeur and size even though she used to live there. She asks why Leo is at the duke's and a maid explains that her mother asked him for help since there weren't enough people. She thinks being entangled with Kyle in this way is difficult and unpleasant, but she's in no position to complain as long as he was found.
