The MC transmigrated to 1200 years ago to meet the ML. When he failed and I think he was also dying, his soul went back and the system disappeared. The ML tried to revive him and waited for 1200 years in the tomb for his soul to return to this body 

So, is this like second chance with both reincarnated or both just transmigrated?

Call me crazy but i really love substitution novels (sadly theres a lacking of good ones ) and the fact that mc has that misunderstanding just lit a fire in my soul 

Ehm its unknown why. But it happened before they had the meeting with mc and ml. And in those many years it was the emperor inside being tortured, but one day he went poof and shou attendant found himself inside. Ofc ml general couldnt believe it at first that it was him despite mc attendant revealed only what shou attendant knew. At that time mc attendant couldnt say sth and only growl. So he wrote on the ground. Ofc ml general still understood it but didnt want to and shut mc attendant into the coffin. Ml general thought it was another scheming play of the emperor. Ml general carried him to sightseeing one day and then brought him to meet mc and ml. And afterwards they had a heart to heart talk. Ml general understood it was him ever since attendant possessed the body. Because the emperor always looked at him in fear and hatred, while attendant looked at him calmly like when he served ml general as slave. Shou attendant is used to ml and generally being treated like that so yea. He is used to being treated badly cuz of his status as slave. Ml general told attendant that he still cant fully believe it and is scared it might be another dream. And that when he wakes up it was all only a dream and he couldnt handle it. Ml general even cried and attendant cried with him, while ml general had attendant in his arms

It ended there with last scene of mc seeing ml general and mc attendant was back to his normal self in a wheelchair. Ofc his legs were gone after all ml general chopped off the emperor's leg that time,  but one could still see the difference between emperor and shou attendant.  Attendant is described as shy at the end. 

Hi, translator here. Glad you like the novel! I'll spoil a bit for you regarding their relationship. Actually, I read this a while back and really only glossed through the plot so I might remember something wrong, and also I was more into MC's shenanigans

Firstly, a long time ago MC transmigrated into the shixiong of ML, and he had a system. I think his task was to kill the ML or make ML a good person (kinda like 'transmigrated into a mob character to rehabilitate the villain') but he failed and was sent back and lost his memories. But even back then, they've already been together through thick and thin, ML basically only listen to MC. The reason why ML lied was that he thought that MC was mad at him when he got too cruel after everyone else tried to kill them for the nth time (I think he killed their shi di when MC begged him not to) and this disappointed the MC. kinda like a kid breaking a vase and worried that his mom would punish him. That's it for their conflict. After MC got back his memories, he forgives the ML and resumed his dominance.

After which they do go to the surface world for a while because ML had to find a way to cure MC's body so he can live without having to absorb energy from the tree or drink his blood. And MC had to get his fix for modern-day society.

As for the antagonists, there is a 'protagonist' that for generations had been reborn again and again to go up against ML. There's also another guy that ML manipulated to help him revive the MC and then got cast aside. After him is the final boss, a powerful ghost/zombie buster and puppet/weapon maker bent on killing all the dumplings.

For the side couple, there's another zombie gong with a very dysfunctional relationship with his shou. The gong is alive while his shou is just a lifeless rotting body (imagine those dried up corpses from the walking dead but with a soul) that he carried around. His personality is very similar to ML which is dark and possessive, that's why they can be 'friends'. There's also a tragic character that the MC took in who had something to do with the final boss.
