Maybe he took Casca just to torment Guts. Griffith knew how much she meant to Guts!

Why? I don't understand your reasoning here. Guts has been trying to kill Griffith basically the whole manga. You're saying he stopped because he suddenly realised he can't? I don't agree with that. Rickert was able to physically strike Griffith. Guts is prepared to die trying, but he won't harm Casca. He may have been taken aback by Griffith embracing her and stopped. I don't think he stopped because he realised the folly of his ways or anything like that.

The unfortunate thing with this new manga is that it's missing a lot of the context, and it's just the broad strokes.

I really am unsure if Guts willingly stopped or just couldn't penetrate Griffith at all.

His vision is failing and from his angle that we are explicitly shown, it's very unlikely Guts could've even seen Casca with Griffith. But I can't help but feel since he's NOT currently the Berserker, he would've held back a blow to Griffith he knew wouldn't work anyway (he's tried many times the last couple chapters) to not harm Casca. Remember, she's his priority now, more-so than revenge. Or so he's trying to convince himself.

But if he just couldn't penetrate Griffith, then it contradicts the fact that Griffith's body didn't halt the blows at all before; they all simply just passed through. But then you get that huge shockwave at the end of the blow, that implies some sort of impact, not holding back... so neither one really adds up for me.

So it's more likely Guts *did* stop on his own, but I feel like we're really missing a lot of the context of Miura's original plan for that scene. :(

Not sure what you're meaning with this. You know she's just unconscious, right?

That was my first thought, but after re-reading the chapter I started to doubt whether Casca becoming unconscious was really something completely confirmed, or perhaps the situation was ambiguous enough to assume other possibilities as well. Or perhaps I'm overthinking the whole scene after seeing new art style used right away to depict such important moment in the story. Next chapter or chapters will explain everything, I guess.

Seeing as to how Griffith thought of Schierke's master as a threat big enough that he  sent most of his APOSLTES, including ZODD to kill her, I thought the flower storm monarch, ruler of elves & elfhelm, would be really strong and would be able to put some resistance against griffith, but looks like in front of him everyone is powerless. Rip Casca she gets so much ptsd from guts can only imagine how much worse it would be with griffithi really expect more from schierke in this situation, as you said she was deemed a threat so great griffith specially sent all including zodd to take down her master and her hometown/village. so how come shes like omg griffith scary !! bro comeon step up to the situation try and back up guts i mean this is crazy. ur just gonna sit down and scream ur ass off? get up and do smthn!

I really thought Casca was going to redeem herself, I miss the old strong Casca. I don’t want the rest of the story to be Guts recusing her like a damsel. She’s suffered enough

Just leave her alone you flaky bishounen bastard. You’ve harmed her enough already.

Guts needs the mother of all power ups to cut Griffith. Normal BS armour is not enough

but it also seems that Griffith used his power to brainwash her, or at least hypnose to make her completely submissive to his will.

To me it looked like Guts stopped his swing so he wouldn't hit Casca, and Griffith knew he would do this. I'm not sure if the blade actually touched Griffith, otherwise his hair—which is between his body and Guts' sword—would have been sliced. We saw in 366 that Guts manages to cut a strand of Griffith's hair, so it isn't invincible. I think Guts stopped his swing so he wouldn't cut Casca in half, otherwise he might have been able to hurt Griffith.
