I knew Miura would have Caska immediately show off her fighting skills once she was back, just couldn't figure out how. He could've been more creative with it, but it also could've been way worse (apostles attacking Elf Island or something like that).
Yeah its not like she was previously the leader of an entire army and a renown fighter. Its not like herself commented on how she subconsciously was able to feel and sense the presence of the group. It's not like its their first time seeing Casca in a none deranged way led the part wanting to talk to her. What are they supposed to do, just stand akward and look at her? The best way to reintroduce Casca was to show what she was prior to regressing mentally, and that is a Warrior.
Your complaints are more forced than the writing. In the general sense most of these interactions are natural. She was a warrior and her memory went only as far to the point of seeing Griffiths tortured body till she encountered Guts again by the end of this episode.
Not only that, but several times throughout the manga Miura made sure to display that Casca, even in her mentally regressive stage had fighting instincts. See volume 23.  And you not finding it creative doesn't surprise me, your knowledge and comprehension of the series seems to be quite low.
The vikings and her new sword are directly related to King Gaiseric, the same King who eventually became the Skull Knight and appeared at the end of 359.
