Simple. Serpico is afraid that journey with Guts will ultimately kill Farnie. Right now she is marrying some rich dude and Guts has his ship to swim to hell and beyond. Nothing to worry about he can returns to his old quiet life. But no Guts had to show up. He tries to stop/slow him down before he reaches Farnie and ruins everything.
