I definitely did not expect the fantastic character development, engaging political intrigue, or well written romance, among many other things. Even the occasional specs of humor are great. Every 3 volumes I order are quickly followed by 3 more.
However, the way these past few chapters have been going, and especially with Griffith's behavior this chapter, I'm actually apprehensive about continuing on.
I think I'm going to stop reading right now, and make a few assumptions:
They succeed in rescuing Griffith. Griffith and Guts reconcile. Guts and Casca get married and have lots of little swordsmen-babies. The End.
