That emphasize on his own personality from guts was cool. He isn't someone who would take commands from someone but he's a commander himself.

The fountain scene is starting to snowball to a catastrophe by making Guts realize that he wants be seen as Griffith's equal. If only he asked him beforehand they could've talked about it...

Basically it's like this. Guts was a lonely kid and his father figure merely used him and didn't really seem to appreciate him. I think Guts has taken what Griffith said about a friend to heart. Hopefully he confronts him about this.

Guts reason to leave the bank of hawk is understandable ;_; He just wanted to find his own dream. I wonder how will Griffith react to this though.

Great development for Guts.

I feel like this chapter gives Guts's character a huge boost.

He doesn't want to be crushed by Griffith's dream. Well there Guts, the truth is I'm happy for him and for that conclusion that implies a lot.
